Back pain while breathing can be an alarming condition for the patients. Hence, there is a need to deem the early detection symptoms of the prevailing condition. According to a study in 2020, back pain has limited the activities of individuals and is a primary reason for absence at workplaces.
One of the leading causes of back pain while breathing may be due to the injury in the bones and muscles. Secondly, it may occur due to the defect in the internal organs such as the heart and lungs.
It has been observed that Back Pain while breathing can have different causes and also vary based on the symptoms and treatment. Here in this blog, I came up with three different causes of back pain while breathing, along with their symptoms and treatments.
Back Pain while Breathing due to Strain Muscles.
The strain in the muscle occurs due to the injury of repetitive use, wrong way usage or can be caused by an accident. The US recorded that 85% of the cause of back pain is strained muscles. Back pain while breathing due to muscle strain can have different symptoms and treatments, which we will explore next.
Symptoms of Strain Muscles
The most common symptoms of the muscle strain are
Quick pain while moving and breathing.
Limits the range of motion
Feeling pressure or difficulty in bending over.
Muscle spasm.
While breathing, several muscles in the body become active; therefore, the injured muscles cause severe back pain and cause discomfort.
Treatment of Strain Muscles
Strain muscle can be calmed by giving it proper rest and applying ice in the initial stage of the injury. The pain and swelling can also be reduced through anti-inflammatory medicines such as ibuprofen, naproxen, or acetaminophen.
Back Pain while Breathing due to Embolism
Back pain can also be experienced due to a clot in the artery of the lungs, called Embolism. This condition can be life-threatening and needs timely treatment.
Embolism can also be detected early through its common symptoms, which will be covered below. Embolism can come up with severe pain in your neck, back, shoulder and chest.
Symptoms of Embolism
The symptoms, which can be observed frequently during embolism, are
Lightheadedness
Rapid Breathing
Irregular Breathing
Weak Pulse
Chest Pain
Restlessness
The symptoms of embolism can also be based on the size of the clot, and the symptoms get more severe when the clot blocks more blood.
Treatment of Embolism
Blood thinners or anticoagulants can deal with embolism, but it needs to be kept in mind that anticoagulants cannot wholly dissolve clots. They can give timely relief.
The immediate treatment of embolism is necessary to get good outcomes. The treatment includes medication, clot removal, inferior vena cava filter placement and balloon pulmonary angioplasty.
Back Pain while Breathing due to Scoliosis
Back pain results from scoliosis, which is the irregular side-to-side curvature of the spine. Developmental, genetic issues and neurological conditions can come up with scoliosis.
People with scoliosis can experience back pain while breathing due to the pressure from their ribcage and spines against their heart and lungs.
Symptoms of Scoliosis
Scoliosis can also be detected on time through its most frequent symptoms, which appear gradually, such as
Uneven shoulders.
Pain while breathing
Hip di-symmetry
Back Pain
The above symptoms can appear gradually, thus becoming unnoticeable at first.
Treatment of Scoliosis
Before treating scoliosis, there is a need to assess numerous issues that can give a clue to the type of treatment, such as the possibility of curve progress, location of curve, degree and extent of curvature, and spinal maturity.
After assessing the issues above, the following treatments can be deem
Bracing
Observation
Surgery

Strain muscles, Embolism and Scoliosis, can cause back pain while breathing and have different symptoms and treatments.
